From buildings excavated in the rock of Lalibela, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, to chapels, churches and monasteries excavated or built in simply improbable places ... Ethiopia has many Christian masterpieces. Often at the peaks of massifs and mountains, these buildings testify to the faith of the Ethiopian people who come as close as possible to heaven and to their God.
Extraordinary festivities Very religious and very practicing, the Ethiopians celebrate the Virgin Mary and Saint Michael every month in the towns and villages of Abyssinia. In January, however, in collective fervor, the people reiterate their baptismal vows on the occasion of the Ethiopian Epiphany through extraordinary festivities that span three days: the Timkat. The priests and the monks dressed in their most beautiful golden clothes and their prayer sticks exhibit during sumptuous processions, the Tabots, symbols of the Commandments of Gods included in the original Ark of the Covenant, brought back to Ethiopia by Menelik to his return from Jerusalem ... Processions all over the country.
